California Hub for Environmental Literacy and Action (CHELA)

A new student and teacher resource for inquiry- and place-based learning on topics related to environmental literacy and environmental justice, the CHELA website, is designed to accelerate environmental learning. It does this by connecting to students’ lived experiences, giving them access to research tools and current data, and supporting them in responding to the implications of climate change. An interactive environmental atlas enables users to see the world around them in new ways and identify actions that could have meaningful outcomes. To support teachers in using this resource, a multidisciplinary team of leaders from the California Subject Matter Projects is currently developing a three-part professional learning series for secondary teachers that will begin August 27, 2022.
